Subaru STI Spec C to be released

Subaru WRX STi Spec C

The new Subaru WRX STI Spec C slims down about 70kg to give the car a weight of approx. 1,400kg. This was made possible, among other ways, with an aluminium trunk, lighter roof, thinner glass, a smaller fuel tank and a compact 12 volt battery. Since STI’s aren’t known for their ability to save gas, taking a longer trip should be more of a burden.

A power upgrade however, will ensure that it’s weight reduction is taken advantage of. The Spec C is expected to match the horsepower of the Evo X MR.

The UK, as well as Japan will probably see grey imports towards the end of 2008.

Not to put too much pressure on the Impreza range, Subaru is hedging a little bit of performance, improving Legacy’s power uptake to better match a grown-up M3 Sedan and Mercedes C63 AMG as well as it’s rival, the Evo X. The car is to be badged S402, with the same engine as Impreza STI, as well as a new 6-speed gearbox, stiffer suspension and race-prepped interior.
